Arts and Crafts for the Kentucky Derby

May 6, 2012

I spent the weekend down in Louisville, Kentucky, enjoying the bourbon and ponies. A yearly tradition for the Derby party I attended is to put some money into the pot and then draw a horse out of the hat.

My horses, Optimizer (#2) and Take Charge Indy (#3), finished 11th and 19th out of 20. Rats! At least I didn’t draw Daddy Long Legs, who apparently decided he didn’t even want to finish the race.

My friends and I also create our own fancy Derby hats by sewing silk flowers onto plain old regular hats, which is a lot more fun (not to mention cheaper!) than buying a pre-made Derby hat.

Happy Derby!
